The Harshlands has a pantheon of ten major deities. Most people are polytheistic, and while they follow one god they do acknowledge the existence of the others. There is even more information pertaining to
religions at the Hârn Religion Team Page.
When one starts the game a character does not have a particular god. To join a church one needs to find a member of the clergy in a given church and be invited to join it. This is not overly difficult, and most priest characters are more than happy to invite new converts into their fold. Once invited into a church that player is simply a lay member, an average worshipper who follows a given god.
Most characters do not choose to be more than a lay worshipper. Indeed, many characters may choose not to follow any god. However, there are those with the will and ability who may be elevated to join the ranks of the clergy, and from there progress within the church's clergy. Such decisions are made by the higher ranking clergy, and may depend as much on the character's political abilities as on his devotion and faith. *

* Characters wishing to become clergy in the game should read about their deity on this page and on the
Hârn Religion Team Page, and then review the basic Clergy Guidelines. Clergy and characters interacting with clergy should review the Rights of Clergy section on the Clergy Guidelines page as well.

Nature of the Gods
The gods want to shape the world according to their purpose, which leads to various degrees of conflict. Their problem is that they cannot destroy each other without risking all their destructions. Hence, the Concordat limits the actions that may be taken.
Conflict between the gods is more or less confined to the mortal and semi-mortal planes of Kethira (where Harn is) and Yashain. Siem has withdrawn to the Blessed Realm. The main conflict is between Larani against Agrik and Morgath, who are just as likely to act against each other Save-K'Nor has established neutrality. Peoni is effectively a non-combatant.
In order for the universe not to fall into chaos, and to enforce the Concordat, the other gods usually supports Larani, but their inclination is to care for their own concerns.
